Breeding Announcement: Julia & Silvia’s Match Has Been Made!

Big news on the farm—Miss Breanna has officially chosen a bull for our purebred Shorthorn heifers, Julia and Silvia! After careful consideration, we’ve decided to breed them to Whisper Seal’s Stryker ET this June, with the goal of welcoming some beautiful, well-built calves in March 2026.

Whisper Seal Stryker ET Sylvia & Julia

Why Whisper Seal’s Stryker ET?

Selecting the right sire is a big decision, and we wanted a bull that would complement Julia and Sylvia while also bringing strong genetics to our herd. Stryker checks all the boxes!

  • Heritage Lineage

Stryker has a pretty impressive family tree. He’s a direct descendant of Pleasant Dawn Seal 2nd, a well-known Canadian Heritage bull from the 1960s. That line is respected for his consistency in producing structurally sound, high-quality Shorthorns—something we definitely want to carry forward in our herd.

  • Calving Ease

One of the biggest things we looked at was birth weight, especially since Julia and Silvia are first-time mamas. Stryker’s calves typically weigh between 70-85 lbs, which is just the right range for heifers. Lower birth weights mean less stress during calving, a smoother delivery, and healthier mamas and babies all around.

  • Solid, Well-Balanced Build

Stryker isn’t just a good-looking bull—he’s built to perform. With a mature weight of around 2,300 lbs and a frame score of 5.5, he brings a great mix of thickness, muscle, and smoothness to the table. His offspring are known for being well-balanced and structurally correct, which means we can expect strong, well-built calves from this match.

  • Polled & A1/A2 Genetics

Another huge bonus—Stryker is polled, meaning he naturally doesn’t have horns. That’s a trait we love because it makes handling easier and removes the need for dehorning. On top of that, he carries the A1/A2 beta-casein genotype, which is something some breeders consider when looking at dairy traits and milk digestibility.

Looking Ahead

We’re beyond excited to see what this pairing produces! The plan is to breed Julia and Silvia this June, giving us a calving date of March 2026. It’s going to be fun watching these girls grow into motherhood, and we’ll be sharing plenty of updates along the way.

Breeding season is always an exciting time, and this match feels like a great step forward for our program. We can’t wait to meet these future Shorthorn calves and see what kind of quality they bring to our herd!

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to breeding time. Here’s to a bright future for Julia, Silvia, and their soon-to-be little ones! 🐮✨
